This is an 8 page NEW & REVISED (2015) skit (part of a 32 page resource) about Bonhomme and the Carnaval de Québec EN FRANÇAIS (IN FRENCH) of a family’s trip to the Quebec Winter Carnival in February. The 3 kids and 2 parents discuss the events, locations and highlights of some of the 2-3 week festivities before Lent to relieve a long Canadian winter. Background for this cultural event is offered by the 4 Bonshommes / Narrators.
Suggestions and photos for the performance, costumes, backdrops and festive background music are offered. Follow-up web-sites are included to add more cultural background so that students might later create their own plan or schedule of events for a weekend at the Carnival. Now, there are 35 Word Wall vocabulary cards to support this play, a letter to parents, a Learning Goal and Rubric Sample in French and English.
The same skit is reformatted with shorter reading lines (like magazine columns) for ease of reading.
This skit is appropriate for French Immersion students from grade 4-grade 9 and Core French students in grade 9, and grade 10. This skit has roles for 9 people including 4 narrators and 5 people in the family: a mom, a dad, 2 boys and a girl. Suggestions are made for adaptations for different size classes.
This skit may be used as a full-scale performance, an in-class performance or simply as a readers’ theater.
Length of skit is approximately 15 minutes.
